Guess What...

We're Engaged!!

I've toiled over how to imprint the greatest moment in my life, to date, on the blog since I've gotten back into the country. As to not keep you in suspense, two great things happened during my holiday break.

1. I took a Christmas Cruise, which was my first time going out of the country in my 30 years of life and...
2. I GOT ENGAGED!

Resurrection Sunday 2015

Resurrection Sunday, better known as Easter Sunday, and Jesus has risen!

Easter 2015

Today is Resurrection Sunday. Not only are we celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, but we're celebrating the resurrection of hope; the seal on God's vow of love to His children; the declaration that the Love we long for isn't dead...
While today is usually dedicated to so many other things that can get in the way of the true meaning, let's remember the real reason we celebrate. This is not a one day thing! We must incorporate Jesus into our daily lives.

Rejoice and be grateful! The life we live is all thanks to HIM!

Happy Easter everyone!

Honoring Dr. King

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2015

There's one day every year where we honor a great man. (If you haven't seen Selma, GO!)
He was not perfect, no one is. We all have our flaws but working towards a better mankind should be all of our goals.

King's fly, run, walk quote

In the words of another great
"I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all
persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities."
--Nelson Mandela

Is that so much to ask? Is that so hard to accomplish? Is it so wrong for everyone to have the same opportunities? I don't think it is. So, to live a life working towards a better future for not only my children but for us all is something I can try my best to do.

The Drum Major Instinct quote

In remembrance of Dr. King, let's all try to have an impact on the world this year.

My New Year's (Not So) Resolution

I was looking forward to the 2014 holiday season for so many reasons. I wanted to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with my family; I did that. I wanted to spend time with my friends doing things that adult life won't let us do as often as we used to, I did that. I needed time off of work; I got that. Even with all I did, there's never enough time to do everything or to see everybody, but I must say I'm pleased with how I was able to spend my time, these past two months.

I don't have resolutions for the year. I never do, really, but I have goals that I'm striving to reach. Towards the end of last year, things got completely out of control, time-wise. When the holiday season rolled around, I had to let working out go, my home schedule got off track and so did my blogging schedule. I had this cloud looming over my head of things I knew I had to do and things I wanted to get done...and I wanted to do it all in one day, even though I knew it wasn't physically possible. As a matter of fact, it's still there! As much of a stressor as that cloud is for me, I've settled with doing what I'm able to get done in what little time I have and I'm satisfied with that.

This year, my focus is time management. At one point, I used to write out my schedules for the week. I had a plan for what I was going to do with each hour of my time in each day. I need that stability again. I need that guide. I need to know that although I won't get everything done today, I have a plan to complete everything by the end of the week or month.

This is my goal. My days have been cut short by my new work schedule, but I am determined to make these hours work for me! I will use January to do some mock trials of day scheduling to see how it goes.

At the end of the day, I'm trying to live my life to the fullest. There are things I want for myself and for my life that are going to require a more together schedule than this fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants schedule I have now. I'm determined to make it work, so I know it will work!

Watch me work!

P.S. - I know you can't help but notice the new hairdo; post to come soon!

It's 2015!

The New Year

It seems like 2014 just rolled in, yet another year is upon us.

I thank the Lord for continuing to bless me with life.

I appreciate the every day things He provides that matter in the small AND grand scheme of things.

Dreams are beautiful and are like little pieces of heaven on Earth when they come to fruition.

2015 already holds tiny gems, but I pray this year brings me the desires of my heart, love, closeness to friends & family and so much more.

May my faith be on a continual increase.

I pray and wish the best for you all. May the Lord bless your year and grant you the desires of your heart as well. I know how much it/they mean to you! :-)

BE SAFE & HAPPY 2015!

Labor Day Weekend OOTD, Part 2

My part two outfit for Labor Day Weekend was more chill. I was planning on being up, out, and about all day, so this outfit allowed me to do more ripping and running!

This outfit is another TJ Maxx original! Same shopping trip as Part 1.
I'd been searching for black pants and just so happened to get lucky in that department too.
The tie-front shirts were popular this year, so I wanted to try my hand at this look! Like the other top, I'm hoping to wear this one a few more times before Autumn.
I know the sandals are hard to see but I ran up on a great sale at Belk by accident.
Like everything else I've mentioned, I've been looking for navy sandals or at least 2 years! lol
The sandals are navy blue and cork colored  Lauren (by Ralph Lauren) wedges.
I got these beautiful sandals for only $15!! I love catching good deals!
I also found this pearl necklace (that I SUPER LOVE...and wear every chance I get) by chance.
I'll have to do another post about the shoes and necklace at a later date!
So be on the lookout!

I spent some time this weekend getting creative with my pics. I have plans for my future in photography so I wanted to spend more time working on my photoshop skills.

The pic to the right is my fave.

I'm sure by now you know I'm from NC.

Everything about this picture screams North Carolina to me;

the trees, the manicured lawn, the neighborhood, the pick-up truck, the shrubbery, the bright sun (bka the heat :-)!

Being away from what you've known all your life makes you see things a little differently.

I'll always enjoy the visits! Can you tell I'm nostalgic?!?

Labor Day Weekend OOTD, Part 1

I attended a family reunion during Labor Day weekend. I wanted to look nice and I decided to go for a summer looks, so I had to shop for new outfits.
Look #1
I've been looking for white pants ALL summer. It'd be just my luck that I'd find a pair right before Labor Day! You know the "rule" is not to wear white after Labor Day.

It's a good thing I don't care about the rule...

because I plan on wearing these pants a few more times this year!

I love that this shirt opens in the back like butterfly wings...makes me feel like I'm flying! I tried to capture that with the photo, but you can't quite see it. I'm definitely hoping to wear this a few more times before it gets too cold!
The whole outfit came from TJ Maxx. That's right, I'm somewhat of a Maxxinista! LOL.
TJ Maxx seems to be one of the best places for me to find clothes these days.
The sandals are from Forever 21 (another place I have luck finding cute clothes).
I'm still searching for something a little more mature, so I've got a lot of branching out to do. Until then, I'm doing the best I can...

and I'm still taking suggestions. I've got a short list and at the top of that list is ASOS.
What are some other stores you'd suggest I check out??
I have not been paid for this post, neither is this sponsored by TJ Maxx or Forever 21.
These thoughts are totally my own...unpaid and honest.

AND since I've got you attention, you all know what tomorrow is!!!! My new hostess job has taken over Fridays!! Come back to show some love and support on FabHER Fridays!!

4th of July OOTD

So, I like doing outfits of the day, but I'm pretty certain that I just like showing off my cute outfits!!
Half the time I can't even remember where I got most of the pieces from,
so I've decided to do just that...show off my outfits!!

If you see something you like, hit me up and
I will be more than happy to let you know where I got it from...
if I can remember, LOL!!

This ensemble is what I wore for our trip to the National Mall to watch fireworks.

I love this dress because I've dressed it up and I've dressed it down. Either way I wear it, I look fly...LOL! Most of all, I love being festive and looking like the day of celebration!! This dress was very fitting...and did you peep the fingernail polish! I was able to pull together all parts of this outfit from things I already had around the house. Don't you just love it when things fall together??
Red, White, & Blue everything!!

...and yes, this is my last July 4th post :-)
Have a great day y'all!!

4th of July Festivities

If you remember this post from last year, you would know what my goal was. Who knew I would accomplish it so soon!! Let's get into these pictures because they are amazing!

Before

A cool GIF

Some of the beautiful fireworks

Panoramic Shot...Look at all the cell phones!

Of course we took the Metro and surprisingly getting to and from the fireworks was no hassle at all. There were so many firework shows going on in the DMV area that no matter where you were at any given time you could see and hear fireworks! In NC Fireworks are illegal, apparently they're not in DC. There were people on street corners shooting fireworks, people in businesses parking lots shooting fireworks...and not the baby fireworks, but the industrial kind! Don't believe me?!

Street corner...lol

However, I was happy with the show we saw and this was definitely apart of my #100happydays!
I would recommend everyone see it...put it on your bucket list!!!

This post was brought to you by us (because I think we look darn good in this pic)! :-D

Sorry for the pic heavy post, but I had to share...and I had to do it my way!
Have a good week y'all!

Memorial Day Weekend

Directly after my summer vacation my family came up to visit for Memorial Day weekend! We had to jam pack so many things into one weekend but it was worth it!

Me and Chris were the event planners. Friday we took my mom, sister, and nephew to our favorite restaurant: Matchbox! We take all our first time DC guests there!!

Saturday we met up with some more of my out of town family to do some see what kind of shopping the DC area had to offer. My plan was to make it to The Capital Wheel at National Harbor (for the kids) but Memorial Day weekend was the opening weekend!! Traffic was backed all the way up the off ramp to the highway, so we nixed that and hit up Tanger Outlets. This outlet mall is fairly new to the area and I've been meaning to visit. This was the perfect opportunity.

Sunday was the day I looked forward to because this was going to be everyone's first opportunity to see the monuments. My sister came back in October and we tried to visit the monuments then but it was rainy & cold! Since it was Memorial Day, we knew it would be too hectic to drive. We thought it would be a good experience and a little fun for everyone to ride the Metro instead! What a success! My family got a taste of the subway life and we didn't have to worry about driving or parking! If you read this post, you already know how I feel about this subject!

The initial plan was the definitely see the White House and the Lincoln Memorial because my nephew talked everybody's head off about these two monuments up to this point! There would have been trouble to pay if we didn't make the magic happen. We also had to see the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial because my sister wanted to see this one! My moma wanted to see it all!

The weather was beautiful, but it was a little on the warm side! My sister is 5 months pregnant and if you know anything about the monuments, you know they're not a hop, skip, or jump away from each other!! Walking around all the monuments would easily take a whole day! With this in mind, we planned to see as many as she could tolerate. The sun was wearing us thin HOWEVER we all got a second wind after the temperature cooled down and we grabbed a light snack. My mom wanted to see them all. I've been up here for almost a year and she's just now coming to visit. Who know when she'll make her way back! So, she wanted to take full advantage of her vacation and finish seeing as many as we could!

Overall we had a great time! I miss my family dearly and I wish home was a little closer but the visits are fun and I hope they become more frequent in the future (meaning more trips for them up here!) :-)

Mother's Day Weekend OOTD

Cute Summer Outfits and Shoes

I got cute this weekend for Mother's Day and I wanted to share my outfit(s) of the day(s) with you! The main thing I'm showcasing with both of these outfits is the shoes! I'm in the process of revamping my summer shoe collection and I just so happened to have my attention immediately grabbed by these beauties when I saw them!

This first outfit is a freebie because the shirt and jeans are years old (unbeknownst to most who see them) AND I can't remember where I got some of these items from! Hey, I'm just being honest!! I'm not a fashion blogger and I don't do OOTD posts often so give me a break! Either way, I was fly, so I captured the moments and I'm sharing them!

Mother's Day

Mother's Day 2014

First, let me apologize now for the sparse blog posts. My softball season has started and I've gone home for the past two weekends so things have been busy. This weekend was Mother's Day, and I had to spend time with two very special Mothers in my life: my Moma and sister!

My mom has done so much in my life that I'm not even going to begin and try to write it all here!! I love this woman so much and there are many times I wish home wasn't so far away. My mom is my friend. I can talk to her about any and everything. I've always been able to do that and I'm grateful for that. She's inspired me to be the woman I am. She's fostered my independence and ability to take care and provide for myself by myself. She's encouraged my quest for higher education (and drilled the need for it since I was small). She's instilled in me respect for myself and others and I love her for that (because I don't play when it comes to respect)!! She's shown me how to take care of a household and a family. And she's always demonstrating her great strength! Me and her are very similar, in so many ways, and that makes me smile. If I can be half the woman she is, I will be more than happy with that!

My sister!!!!! She's been my best friend since day 1! We've always had a close relationship even when we were younger. It makes my heart warm & I wish the same for my children (whenever they come). She's a very intelligent young lady. I just don't know how she was able to have a child in high school & still be valedictorian! Show me another teenager able to do that & I'll give you $5 (only $5 b/c I'm paying off debt!! I need my coins)!! I didn't have a child & I was good with just being in the top 10% of my class, lol! Then she went on to graduate with honors from the most prestigious university in the nation, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill!! She's a great mother to my nephew & a great wife all the while pursuing her MBA from ECU (yes, she's followed in her sister's footsteps). She's so ambitious & steadily reaching for the highest bar. I admire that about her. She instills the same values in my nephew, even though my parents have spoiled him rotten!! When my niece gets here, she'll have a wonderful role model in her mom, my sister!!

In all, my weekend was a great one. We enjoyed each other's company, shopped for the baby, and ate some good food!! I enjoyed my family and I miss those two very much. I catch myself trying to get homesick every now and again because all three of us are very, very close. Being 5 hours away has been tough, but we FaceTime often!! I LOVE these ladies!!

I wish all my family, friends, and acquaintances a Happy Mother's Day
and I hope everyone enjoyed the day with their moms
(whether biological, spiritual, or stand-in) and/or children!
Face this week with ambition and desire to get things done!! Have a good one!

MLK Day

Today we observe Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday (January 15)!
Dr. King showed us the power of one in changing the way people think.
He was a great man who lead the Civil Rights Movement and moved a nation.

From his great speech "I Have A Dream" to the many marches for equal rights, this man deserves his spot in history!

Happy Belated Birthday Dr. King and Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. day!

NYE OOTD

I remembered how hard it was to find an outfit for New Year's Eve last year so I decided to start the search early this year. Even though I began early, I still had trouble. In this big metropolitan area, there were no dresses to be found. I'd come to the conclusion that most stores weren't going to put out NYE dresses until after Christmas.

The reason I was able to start my search so early was because I ran across this beautiful dress on Christin Armstrong's IG. I had to have it!! It helped me to know that I wanted something sparkly and long sleeved. I wanted shoes to accent my dress (whatever dress I found) but I also wanted closed-toe shoes because I knew it would be cold!! After going to at least 20-30 stores over the course of a few weeks, here's what I was able to put together:

The Dynamic Duo
Dress: Forever 21

Shoes: Charlotte Russe

Accessories: Charlotte Russe Necklace,
Tiffany Bracelet
Michael Kors Watch

Arm Candy: My handsome boyfriend! :-)

My Thoughts, Dress: I really was looking to stay away from black this years as I wore it last year (see here, picture on the right). I'm also still working towards being more stylish. It's been a task trying to find that style between young adult and older women's fashion! It either looks too young or looks too old. With that being the case, Forever 21 wasn't on the top of my list for places to look. This dress was actually the last one in the store and I wasn't going to buy it because it looked damaged (up close) but I liked the dress so much that I couldn't let it slip out of my hands. I literally walked into 20 to 30 stores y'all! It was no fun. I also looked online, but had no luck there either. (This didn't phase me because I'm a little old fashioned in that I really prefer to try my clothes on before deciding to buy.)

My Thoughts, Shoes: After going through all I had to go through to find a dress, I was not excited about having to do the same to find shoes! Charlotte Russe was the first place I looked for shoes and I stumbled onto these beauties immediately. As soon as I tried them on, I fell in love. The thing is, they didn't have my size!! They never do!! I'm sure size 9 is the most common woman's shoe size in America!! I also didn't want a sandal. I wanted to be able to wear tights and have my feet covered because I knew it would be a cold night! So, I searched in other stores with no luck. No shoes could compare to these! I called every Charlotte Russe close to me in NC (I was home for the holidays) but no store had the shoe. I didn't want to order it because I was afraid they wouldn't make it in time. After $20 (express shipping) and a trip to FedEx (because packages don't come to address just yet...smh), I was able to get them in time. I guess I can't really complain.

The outfit was perfect and I was told that I was the best looking woman in the ballroom that night. I'm inclined to believe that, even if it was my boyfriend that said it! LOL. I also can't wait to find another reason to wear this outfit!!
