July Curlbox & Product Review

Herbal Essences 'The Sleeker The Butter' & Pantene Hair Masque and Custard Product Reviews

If you're not getting a curlBOX, you might just be missing out!!

Getting these boxes is like getting Christmas presents full of goodies each month! I wouldn't try a lot of these products if they weren't being sent to me but (like I've said before) you can't find what you like unless you try different things! I'm still getting over split ends but most of the products are treating my hair well, so I'm not complaining about that part.

July's box was a Beach Box theme! This box was packed with a trip to the beach in mind. All you'd have to do is throw this box in your suitcase and you wouldn't need much else. It included:
  • Herbal Essences 'The Sleeker The Butter' Shampoo
  • Herbal Essences 'The Sleeker The Butter' Conditioner
  • Herbal Essences 'The Sleeker The Butter' Creamy Hair Milk
  • Pantene Pro-V Stylers Texturizing Sculpting Wax
  • Aussie 3 Minute Miracle
  • Covergirl Queen Collection Jumbo Gloss Balm
  • Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash
  • Secret Clinical Invisible Solid Antiperspirant
  • Crest Be
  • Ivory Soap
YES! Soap, body wash, toothpaste, and deodorant were included in this box! There's just something about getting toiletries that I love!! There are times when I just waltz through toiletry sections to see what I can find. That's how I get in trouble!

I'm getting a sew-in soon, since that's happening, I've been trying to use as many of these products as I can. I've actually tried several items from this box, but I want to talk about my wash day products. From this box I tried the Herbal Essences Shampoo & Conditioner; from the April box the Pantene 2 Minute Moisture Hair Masque Deep Conditioner & the Pantene Defining Curls Styling Custard; and from the May box the Crème of Nature Strength & Shine Leave-In Conditioner.

After the complete wash & condition
I went through my normal wash routine. This time I decided to use the Herbal Essences conditioner as more of a detangler. My curl pattern is generally looser after being straightened so detangling isn't too hard to get through. I put the HE conditioner in and detangled one section at a time. After this was done, I used the Pantene deep conditioner. My DC stylist told me she thinks I may be over conditioning because my hair doesn't hold curls well when it's straightened. My hair has never held curls that well and maybe I shouldn't use two conditioners but I have a reason for it. My hair had been straight for about a little over a month. During that time I went through the process of getting the rest of my split ends chopped off plus I was trying to hold out for my sew-in. Dates got pushed back and my hair was looking a hot mess, so I washed it. I don't moisturize my hair like I should when it's straight because I don't want to weigh it down so I wanted to make sure I conditioned it well after having it straight for so long...hence the two conditioners.

When I did my last twist out, I actually took the time to untwist AND separate each strand of twists. This time I decided to do the same, even though I knew it'd make me late for work...LOL! I used the Extenshine Moroccan Argan Oil Perfecting Serum from the June box to coat my hands before untwisting and the results were great. I've finally perfected my stretched twist out look! Now my first day twist out looks ten times better than it did here! Throughout the week the look frizzes out and becomes fuller, perfecting an already good looking twist out!

I don't have anything negative to say about any of the products I've used. I feel like the shampoo and conditioner didn't dry my hair out at all. This shampoo and conditioner are recommended for frizzy hair. My hair is naturally frizzy, so there's not much that can contain that. I've actually incorporated the frizz into a lot of my looks. This shampoo and conditioner contain cupuaçu, which has the most AMAZING smell!! Before I transitioned back to natural, I always wanted to use Herbal Essences because of the fragrances they have. While I was transitioning, I gave one of their conditioners a try, with no luck, so it's great to have found a better product for my hair type.

Coupled with the HE products, I believe the deep conditioner worked some magic on this hair of mine. At any given time my hair is dry so I'm always trying find something or tweak my hair routines to have it be more moisturized. After using this product, I could tell a difference in the level of moisture. It's recommended use is once a week. I don't wash my hair that often! If I did, I'd definitely use this product. As for the last two products, you already know how I feel about those! If not see here and here.

I know this was a long post, but I just had the best twist out ever!
PLUS I wrote the July curlBOX post in July!! I'm on 10 over here!!

Have any of you tried any of the products I used for this wash day??
If so, what kind of results did you get and were you happy??

I'm curious to know. Herbal Essences and Pantene aren't particularly the first names that come to mind when you think of natural hair. This was definitely a positive experience for me.
(Results may vary. I have not been paid for this post. This post is not sponsored by any of the products mentioned here. These thoughts are totally my own...unpaid and honest! JUST MI! :-)

  1. Very cute twist out!!!! I was wondering how the shampoo and conditioner were. My hair doesn't like "cheap" products per se. Just mid-level products. My hair also hates extra expensive products too. So it sounds like the shampoo and conditioner smell good and did a decent job. I also have frizzy hair.
