Figuring Out What's Right

Hair Products I've Tried For My Natural Hair

Products I've tried on my natural hairSince I've put it out there that I'm going to be trying to find the best hair products for my hair and I've asked for suggestions and advice, I thought it would be helpful to say what I've already tried! Remembering is the key. I've been natural for 3.5 years, so of course there's been many things I've tried over the years. I've tried to give away many of these products but for the most part, I still have most of them. So, I spent the week making a comprehensive list of my stock and the things I could remember from the past. Here's it is!

Shampoos
Aquage Strengthening Shampoo
Beautiful Textures Tangle Taming Shampoo
Cantu Sulfate-Free Cleansing Cream
Carol's Daughter Sacred Tiare Sulfate-Free Shampoo
Design Essentials Natural Curl Cleanser
Herbal Essences 'The Sleeker The Butter' Shampoo
Mixed Chicks Shampoo
OGX Moisture + B5 Shampoo
ORS Olive Oil Sulfate-Free Hydrating Shampoo
Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo

I try to wash my hair every two weeks because I usually have a good chunk of product build-up. I've tried sulfate and non-sulfate shampoos and honestly, I can't tell the difference. Some of the non-sulfate shampoos were actually harder on my hair than some of the sulfate shampoos! SO, my goal is to find something and cleans my hair but doesn't completely strip it of all its moisture!

With my conditioners, I need something that helps me detangle easily. I'll discuss this in a later post but detangling is my biggest beast! I need something that's going to make that as easy as possible.

Moisturizers & Creams
Beautiful Textures Moisture Butter
Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer
Cantu Coconut Curling Cream
Creme of Nature Argan Buttermilk
Creme of Nature Pudding Perfection Curl Enhancing Cream
Curls Unleashed (ORS) Curl Defining Creme
Design Essentials Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion
Influance Moisture Lock with Shea Butter
Lottabody Moisturize Me Curl & Style Milk
ORS Incredibly Rich Oil Moisturizing Hair Lotion
Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie

I'm looking for a moisturizer that will do just that...moisturize my hair! I don't want it to be too heavy and I want the smell to be tolerable. I also don't need for it to be too oily because my face is sensitive to natural hair products. I wear my hair out a lot, so I don't need the products rubbing off my hair onto my face. That creates an acne problem for me...which is a no go!

Oils
Beautiful Textures Shine & Silken
Creme of Nature Eden Repairing Oil
Design Essentials Natural Coconut & Monoi Intense Shine Oil Mist
Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
Grapeseed Oil
Influance Natural Oil
Pantene Truly Natural Hair Shine Serum
Softee Extenshine Moroccan Argan Oil Perfecting Serum

I'm looking for an oil that doesn't break my face out {like this Coconut Oil (affiliate link) I use does} and seals all the moisture in! I don't want anything heavy and I want my hair to be able to absorb the oil well enough so it's not rubbing off on everything.

Taliah Waajid The Great Detangler

This is just a miscellaneous group, so there are a lot of things in this category. At the top of the list is finding a regular gel and an edge gel that actually works for my hair! My hair is super soft which makes it super frizzy. I don't like to overuse gel (or any product for that matter) because it builds up quickly on my hair...and it still doesn't work! Everybody that does my hair loves to slap that edge gel on my edges because they are usually flying all over the place, but regardless of how much is used...it just does not work! So, I want to find a gel that I can use sparingly to hold my hair in place.

Now, I'm not sure if this is everything I've tried under the sun since I've been natural, but it's the most accurate picture I can give you! And NO! I'm not a product junkie. Like I've pointed out earlier, it's been 3.5 years. You accumulate a lot of stuff over time, however most of the things I've tried I've tried since leaving my cosmetologist.

Some of these products worked well, some were complete fails, some I probably didn't use like I was supposed to, and some of these my cosmetologist told me to stop using because they were (scientifically) bad for my hair!

Grouping these products together is just another step in the right direction for my hair! I still have a ton of products I need to try, but based on what I've tried already and what I'm looking for, what are some products you'd suggest?!
