I finally decided to do the comb coils. I discussed all my worries about comb coils here, but despite those worries, I decided to give it a try anyway. You never know unless you try right?!
As you all know, I'm not into the tight curl look. Everyone at the salon was doting over the before look and wanting me to leave with my hair like that. I already knew I wanted my hair untwisted, so there was no way I was keeping my hair twisted (below pic). The before twists were just way too tight and flat on my head. Here's a picture of what the coils looked like before they were untwisted:
No Way!! |
Super tight curls and too flat, right?
I knew going into this that the after look would already look tight enough...at least for 3 or 4 days. However, I was willing to give it a try. So I did!! Here's the after look:
Hang time would come in handy here |
Comb coils can be used to start dreadlocks. They move like dreads too. I went through a small period during middle school when I thought I wanted dreads, but I decided against it when I realized I'd have to cut my hair off if I didn't want them anymore. I also went through a "crunk" stage in college - a time during which shaking dreads was very prevalent. Ever since the song 'Knuck If You Buck" came out I've wanted to "shake my dreads" so bad. This is the closest I'm going to get to doing it!! So every now and then I "shake my dreads". LOL.
STILL! I'm definitely ready for these jokers to fall...but I am enjoying the new look.
What do you think??
What do you think??
Very, very cute! Do people actually wear it untwisted (the first look), seems unfinished! I really like the last shot...this style really shows off how gorgeous your hair is!
ReplyDeleteYes, Nicole, people actually wear their hair the first way. It's kinda like twists. Some people wear twists for a couple of days then untwist. Maybe if I didn't work in a professional setting I'd give it a try (because it helps the style last longer) but it just looks weird to me. And thank you so much...you'll get to see it up close and personal come Monday night!
DeleteThanks for following Claudia!! What's interesting is I visited your page earlier today and I thought I hit that bloglovin follow button...either way, I'm following now!!
ReplyDeleteThis style is very becoming on you. I love the untwisted version the best. I've never had this style, but I know the feeling of having to get the "first" style in order to achieve the "second", which is the look you really are going for. That's how I feel most of the time with twists, but I love twist outs so I do what I gotta do. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Libby!! I'm the exact same way with twists. I'll wear a twist out all day long, but never the just the twists. I've seen people pull that off and it looks great, but I don't think I'll be doing anything like that until my hair gets a little bit longer!!
DeleteI admire you for being adventurous with your hair. I am very scared to try things with my hair so I always wear it straight for decades now lol!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks Aileen. I think the adventurousness came from always wearing my hair the exact same way when it was relaxed. I thought it was very boring and even making the decision to go natural was a super game changer for me. I am devoted to trying new things!! You should give it a try too!! Maybe a new still every couple of weeks...you never know unless you try!! :-)

Thanks Jessica!! I'll have to check out that other blog hop soon!
DeleteI love this look! I've worn the untwisted coils when my hair was shorter. The look works a little better if one or both of the sides are pulled back but as you mentioned, it always tends to look better over a few days when they drop some & when you begin to untwist them. Very cool!! I do my own natural hair so I'll be checking you out for some inspiration ;)! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDelete- Natasha @ Lovely You
Thanks Tasha!! I usually wear all my styles pulled up, but I'm trying to break away from that a little bit. This style certainly didn't help in that department...LOL. Regretfully, they didn't fall as much as I wanted them to, so I probably won't get this style again until my hair gets a little longer. I'm flattered to be used as inspiration. If you find some neat styles let me know, I'll try just about anything!! LOL
DeleteYour hair turned out cute! I like the untwisted look on you! I was in college during the Crime Mob days and crunk era too! lol
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!! And those were the good ol' days, weren't they?! LOL
