My Naturalversary

3 Years Natural

natural hairstyles for January through July
Hairstyles from the 1st half of the year
It's already been another year. Does it feel like it?? YES! I know I've said this many times over the past few weeks, but I've been through the wringer this year with my hair. In last year's Naturalversary post, I had a few updates then, let's see where I stand on those now:
  1. I didn't do length checks every other month like I was supposed to. After the year rolled in, I decided to try and get proactive about my damaged hair. I tried different styles like flexi rods and heatless curls, then I revamped those styles when they got old. That worked for me until...

The Finished Product

Full Sew-In With Lace Closure

I finished washing and stretching my natural hair, drove two hours, and arrived at the salon.

How to braid hair before a full sew-in with lace closureI've never been to a weave salon before, so The Weave Express was a new experience. I went on a Sunday which was by appointment only. There was a "weaver" and a "braider". They worked like an assembly line. A customer comes in and, depending on what kind of sew-in they're getting, the braider braids the hair in a style that suits the kind of sew-in she's getting and the weaver sews the weave. To thicken my braids, the braider added strands of braid hair to thicken and strengthen my braids for the sew-in. It took the braider about 20 to 30 minutes to completely braid my hair.

Honoring Dr. King

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2015

There's one day every year where we honor a great man. (If you haven't seen Selma, GO!)
He was not perfect, no one is. We all have our flaws but working towards a better mankind should be all of our goals.

King's fly, run, walk quote

In the words of another great
"I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all
persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities."
--Nelson Mandela

Is that so much to ask? Is that so hard to accomplish? Is it so wrong for everyone to have the same opportunities? I don't think it is. So, to live a life working towards a better future for not only my children but for us all is something I can try my best to do.

The Drum Major Instinct quote

In remembrance of Dr. King, let's all try to have an impact on the world this year.

The Internet Reacts - Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson's Reaction to NFC Championship

The Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers met this afternoon to play each other for the NFC Championship and for a spot in the 49th Super Bowl. I'm not really into sports, but I catch a few games here and there. I caught the Seahawks/Packers game and it was actually a great game. The Seahawks fought hard and definitely deserve their seat in the Super Bowl based on their performance in this game alone!

When Wilson was approached after the game, his first words in reaction to their win were:

Wilson's 'God is good' quote after winning the NFC ChampionshipThere's one thing I always say about "celebrities" (specifically entertainers and athletes)...they're people just as you and I are! People place them on pedestals when they should not and sometimes they're looked at as robots. People don't expect them to feel and react like to things like us "normal people" do, but I think Wilson's comments show just how human they can be.

My Facebook timeline is full of people giving Wilson props for acknowledging God; there are many articles already online about him being emotional and crying; and he's trending on Twitter. Things like this travel so quickly in this day and age.

My thoughts are that God does deserve the praise for it all!! I've received so many inspirational messages today and if anything I'll just add this one to the list. If something like this will bring people to God, or even make Him a thought on all of our minds...I'm all for it!!

During times of excitement, we're all bound to react differently. His teammate, Michael Bennett, was so excited he did a lap around the field on a police bike! I can honestly say the Internet has embraced this. I haven't seen anything negative about his appreciation for God and that I can be grateful for; we all know how the Internet can be.

Have a great Sunday night you all. Congrats to the Seahawks, the Patriots, and their fans!
