The first real piece of jewelry I had was given to me by my moma. It was a single sapphire-stoned ring (sapphire is my birthstone). I can't quite remember if the ring was gold or silver, but knowing my moma, it was probably gold...lol, (if you knew her...or have at least seen her...you would understand why)! I got the ring around 4th or 5th grade and I wore that ring every single day for a number of years. I hardly ever took it off. I wore it so long my hand outgrew it! We ended up cutting the ring off of my hand. The only other real ring I've had is my class ring. It's a sapphire ring too.
Yeah, I don't know why I still have magazines from 2008-2009 either... |
Glamour. I didn't order this subscription, but I was very glad to have it for a couple of free months. This subscription was the origin of this. After I stopped getting the magazine, I craved it for a little while longer. I bought one magazine out of the store like to months after, but it wasn't the same!
3. First time staying home alone
HA! I was a latchkey kid. I was staying home alone since I was a baby! Lol...okay...not really, but I was young! Shortly after entering the 4th grade I began staying home alone. My school was literally 20 steps from my front door, so it was only logical. I would get ready for school in the mornings, watch morning cartoons, then walk to school 5 minutes before classes started! When school let out, I was home in no time. I loved it! A couple of years later, I began watching my sister after school too. I guess you can say we lived in a close knit neighborhood, so we were safe, but if we were to need something there were people we could call. After watching an episode of 'Where In The World Is Carmen San Diego' and half an episode of 'Ghostwriter', my mom was home anyway! Besides, I was a very mature and responsible child! :-)
What are your firsts??
What are your firsts??
That's crazy you were staying home alone so young! I guess it does make the most sense though since you were so dang close to your school! I wasn't within walking distance, so that never would have worked for me... oh well! Glad you joined in and linked up with us today! :)
ReplyDeleteI know right. I never thought anything of it, because it was what I knew! I've been meaning to send you a message Halie! Whenever I copy the HTML for the first things first button from your page, it gives me the old button. I have the HTML for the new button somewhere, but I just wanted to let you know that!!
DeleteThanks for coming to check me out!
Sounds like you were a very responsible kid! Getting yourself to school and everything. We lived 10 miles or so from school so that'd be impossible for me! Thanks for linking up. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think being able to walk to school when it's that close can be a luxery at times. I also had to walk to middle school...which wasn't as close! I definitely wouldn't have labeled that experience as a luxury. Most of the kids from my neighborhood as to walk because the our neighborhood was too close to the school for them to send us a bus!! Crazy, I know...now that I think about it, somebody should have lobbied for us!
DeleteI do think staying at home made me super responsible...and having to take care of my sister made me super nurturing! You never know what kids will take away from experiences!!
Thanks for stopping by!
I think I've only had 3 rings. The first one was a gold heart shaped ring that my friend and I bought when we went to a Beta Club convention. The second one was a wooden band ring that a friend of mine brought me back from Costa Rica during a high school Spanish Club trip. And the last one was my high school ring, which like yours, has a sapphire center. Rings kind of get in my way so I don't wear them. I've said for years though, if God sees fit to send me a husband, I'll gladly wear that ring; no other ring is necessary. :-)
ReplyDeleteI definitely totally agree with that last statement. I've been shying away from wearing rings and bracelets all together because they do get in the way...but I will gladly wear any wedding band my future fiance puts on my finger with no issue!
DeleteHi there!! Thanks for stopping by and following me, I will certainly return the favor!
