Sunday Social

Pet Peeves & Fear

It's Sunday and I decided to participate in Sunday Social! First though! Make sure you guys are following my on Google+ so you can get all my posts sent directly to you!! Click below and add me!

Let's get into it....

1. What is your biggest driving pet peeve?
I have several driving pet peeves.
A) Drivers who speed up to get in front of me then slow down
B) Drivers who constantly brake for no reason at all
C) Traffic, especially grid lock traffic (I feel like traffic should constantly flow.
If everyone would drive, there shouldn't be any problems)
D) Unnecessary speeding. There are three stop lights/signs between here
and the end of the street. Why are you going 60 mph between each stop?

2. What is your biggest blogging pet peeve?
My biggest blogging pet peeves are...
A) Going to blogs that have too much content on them, especially when I'm at work.
It slows the computer down even more than normal!
B) Bloggers who don't respond to comments or comments awaiting moderation.
I like to connect with bloggers and I feel like those things put a barrier between doing that.
C) Bloggers who don't give credit. It's okay if you want to showcase or share...
but please give credit where credit is due

3. What is your biggest shopping pet peeve?
I used to work in retail in college (at Old Navy) so I know what to expect
when I walk into a store. My shopping pet peeves are...
A) When salespeople don't greet you upon entering a store.
B) When salespeople pester you about needing help or about current sales.
C) When I NEED help and can't find a salesperson in sight!
D) When a store is either unorganized or super large. It's even worse when the store is super large AND unorganized!!
and E) When there's a very long line for the fitting room

4. What is your biggest general pet peeve?
LIARS and DISRESPECT!! Don't do it. You will get cut off real quick! No second thoughts.

5. What is your most irrational fear?
Dying before I'm able to start a family. To be honest, I don't really feel that's all that irrational, it could happen. However, it is a fear...God willing, this won't happen!! :-)

So, can you feel me on some of my pet peeves and fear?? Or is it just me?! LOL
Happy Sunday :-)

Sunday Social

I haven't done Sunday Social in a while, so I decided to join in today.

Sunday Social
1. When did you join Twitter?
Great question. I joined Twitter on January 11, 2014. I wanted to expand my brand more and I had avoided it for a year. I definitely thought it was time.

2. Who is your favorite non-celeb to follow?
Good question. I haven't quite found a favorite just yet. I'm still trying to learn my way around!!

3. Who is your favorite celeb to follow?
Celebs are funny. Some of them only tweet about upcoming events or albums and that gets annoying. I want to find a celeb that's tweeting regular thoughts and occurrences like I am. I have yet to find a favorite in that category too...lol. I'll definitely take good suggestions though!

4. Have you ever had a celeb respond to your tweet?
I follow some radio morning shows and I @ them from time to time to give my input on whatever topics they're discussing in the morning and I've had my tweets read on the radio. But I've never tweeted at a celebrity. Guess I should try!

5. What is your favorite store/brand to follow?
@CurlBox. I have a membership with them and they have chats for different hair-related things. I participated in one chat recently and I actually gained a lot from that convo. I'll definitely take suggestions on good stores and brands to follow too.

6. Give us three tweeps we should follow we should follow.
Me @justmiblog (of course), Nicole @pharr_away, and Erin @MrsErinAlmond!!

After looking at this Social Sunday, it looks like I definitely need to step my Twitter game up!! Don't worry y'all, it's on my to do list! Since I'm new to twitter, I've been trying to keep up with everyone that I follow. That's hard to do when your list is 400 people long. I don't understand! BUT, I recently got rid of some celebrities and store brands to help me do a little better with following actual people first. So follow me and I'll follow you!!
Happy Sunday!

Sunday Social

I will go on and preface this by saying January is my new blog month. I've mentioned in several posts how this is my year to expand my blog. I've also highlighted some of my favorite posts from last year to show off what I've done (despite computer issues). This week's Sunday Social just so happens to go along with my monthly theme, so I saw it as a sign that I had to participate!

Sunday Social

1. What is the name of your blog? How long have you been blogging?
The name of my blog is Just Mi! I've been blogging for one year! Read My 1st Blogiversary to see what I had to say about it!

2. Why do you blog?
In one word, HAIR! That's the main reason I started blogging. I talked about my blog spot in a couple of places: Sunday Social, About Mi, Liebster Award #3, etc. etc. Of course my blog has grown into a place where I feel comfortable doing other things besides talking about hair...like sharing recipes, talking about me and the things I go through or have gone through, participating in blog hops, and so on. I've actually started a series where I'll be sharing some of my favorite posts from my first year periodically called the Flashback series. I just posted my first one this past Friday. Check it out here: Flashback Friday!

3. What is the first blog you ever followed?

 photo behappy2_zps2041b2a4.png

My best friend, IRL, Nicole's blog @ Pharr Away. She's a major reason why I became interested in blogging. Check her out!

4. What is your favorite post you wrote in 2013?
My favorite post was I'm An Introvert - 2. I felt really misunderstood as an "introvert", so I really wanted to devote some space on my blog to talking about it. This post is my most viewed (and the series was definitely the most commented on) post. It made me feel good to know there were so many people who could relate to the things I had to say about being an Introvert. Check out the other posts in that series too: Let's Just Admit It...I'm An Introvert, I'm An Introvert - 3, I'm An Introvert - 4, I'm An Introvert - 5, Introvert Finale.

5. What are your blogging goals for 2014.
As I said in my intro paragraph, 2014 is all about blog expansion for me! The first year was like a trial. I had to jump out there, get my feet wet, get over some of the hesitations I had, and learn as much as I could.  Now I'm ready to dive in head first! My focus is on growing my blog and creating better connections with other bloggers.

6. Top 3 favorite blogs to follow?
I talked about three of my favorite blogs in this post, so I'll highlight three other blogs that I've come to enjoy a little more over the year.

 photo knockingonthirtybutton_zps4ce391e6.png

So that's it for this social. Definitely go and check the ladies out that I've mentioned in this post as well as check out some of my older posts that's I've linked in today and....

Please, please, PLEASE! follow me on my new Twitter account (@justmiblog)!!!!
To go hand in hand with my blog expansion I had to get with it!!

Be Blessed!

Sunday Social

It's Sunday Social time and we're talking about work!!

Sunday Social

Let's jump in!!

1. What is your dream job?
Somebody recently asked me this question or one similar to this. The question was, "Is the job you have now your dream job?" My answer, "absolutely not!" My answer to this was that my dream job was the be a pharmacist. I talked about what happened to this dream here and it's unfortunate to say that I wasn't able to carry out the plan I had. However, I think everything happens for a reason, it must. There are real life drawbacks that could come with that dream (bigger student loan debt, unforgiving working hours, etc.) and I don't know if it would have been worth it in the end. The thing is...despite things having not gone my way...I still found A way.

2. If you had just won the lottery and didn't need to work for money, what would you do with your time?
I would take up photography. I talked about this a little in this post. This is something I could do now actually, but I would need a few resources first...mainly a CAMERA!...lol...time, and education about the art of photography.

3. What piece of career advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
Go back to school!! LOLOL. Let me clear this up. I got a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. There is very little you can do with a psychology degree that will amount to the amount of work you put into obtaining that degree as well as the amount of debt you might be in after undergrad. With that being said...I had to get higher education. I have two Master of Science degrees...one in Rehabilitation Counseling and the other in Substance Abuse and Clinical Counseling. I can at least say that I am enjoying what I'm doing now, but the position I have is one that you have to work towards. You can't come out of school and jump into this job. You have to work in the field for a number of years to gain hands-on experience. It can be very rough out there in the field...so, my piece of advice would be this: Be careful where you work. Stay honest and true to yourself and your work because there are people out there who will test you. Try to find a job that you'll enjoy and if you're unhappy there's nothing wrong with leaving to find another job that you can be happy with!

4. What would be your ideal "just for fun" job?
I would love to be an interior decorator. I love watching HGTV. I love decorating new spaces, but I wouldn't particularly say it's my forte. I do an okay job at it, but I would love to be able to have an idea and watch it come to life in a space of a home. I think decorating is fun...nobody likes moving because of packing, but I love moving because that means I get to decorate a new space!

5. What was your first real job?
My first real job was as a Substance Abuse Program Director. I talked about this in detail here. It was okay in the beginning, but I hated it so much in the end that it was making me physically sick!!

So, the short of the long is this: where you work is very important. It impacts your everyday life. It provides you with the income to take care of the things you need to take care of and you're supposed to have fun with the rest of that money. You spend the majority of your week at work...smh...it really needs to be something you can half way enjoy!! It would be nice if you could love your job...and you should...but try your best to find a happy medium.

Enjoy your Sunday, because tomorrow will be here before you know it!!

Sunday Social

OFFICIAL BIRTHDAY COUNTDOWN!: 12 Days

This week's social is about my blog and why I do it. Let's dive on in!!

1. What is the name of your blog?
When I was trying to come up with a name for my blog, I wanted to come up with something that was cute and catchy. I wanted to find a title that spoke perfectly to who I am. I wanted something that for just right for "Just Mi!" (me)....get it?! It's a double entendre. Mi is short for Mionna...so my title is definitely a reflection of me and the way I approach life. That's all I can be...just Mi/me! I recently added the subtitle "From NC to DC" after I moved because I'm hoping to see the blog include more things about the life I will be creating here as time goes on.

Sunday Social2. What do you love most about blogging?
Blogging allows me to have an account of things going on in my life as they happen. I get to talk about whatever I want...or whatever I feel comfortable sharing with you all...and this blog will be here forever giving me the chance to always be able to come back to this page to see these moments in my life. I must admit, it was a little scary at first (sharing my life in a blog) and I was super cautious about the information I put out there. Fast forward 9 months, I'm still cautious (as I am with all my other social media sites) but I'm more comfortable with the thought that people I don't really know are actually reading my page! I also enjoy blog hops (like this one). Each good hop has awesome things to share and it gives you a centralized place to find other bloggers. The blog world is so big!!

3. Why did you start blogging?
I initially started blogging to chronicle my journey back to natural hair. I went natural on January 30, 2012.

Left: The day of my last relaxer
Right: the last time my natural hair was straightened

That year, my best friend started blogging and would tell me all about it. I would read her blog and I must admit that it seemed like fun. When my other best friend started blogging on Tumblr that seemed more like my speed. I didn't want to have all my business out there, so I started posting just pictures at first, which Tumblr is great for. Then when my friend told me more about Blogger, I opened it up one day and completely fell in love. Once I began seriously blogging I expanded my content to other areas like couponing, recipes, outfits, etc. It's so much fun, like an online diary of sorts!!

4. What is something you'd want to tell someone just starting out in the blog world?
You don't have to blog everyday!! I thought I had to at first but blogging can be a lot of work and I'm not even as in to it as others are. I post every other day and I usually take the weekends off. In order to get the most out of blogging you want to connect with other bloggers. In order to do that you need time!! You also want your posts to be read (and not just seen) so you want to put out meaningful content...not put for the sake of saying you post every day. You'll definitely get the flow of things after a while and will find what works best for you.

5. Biggest blogging learning experience you've had?
Even though I've read blog posts about this since I first got on Blogger, I just recently realized what it really means! Reply to comments by email when possible. I always thought that replies to comments come directly to your email anyway (since replies would come to my email address). But, I realize now that commenters won't get your responses unless they come back to the post to check and see if you've responded. They don't get an email sent to them when you respond, unless you respond by email. I find this to be a more personal approach and I tend to share more when responding by email anyway. I like it better.

6. What are three blogs you love?
Nicole @ Pharr Away: Now that we're 4.5 hours away from each other, I still get to keep up with my best friend (IRL) through her wonderful blog!

Photobucket

Rekita @ Her & Nicole: She's so much like me (even though I'm not married with three children!) I just know we would have been real life friends! She and her family make an awesome team!!

 photo grabbutton3_zps5fb62034.png

Serena @ The Serena Saga: Simply put, I love her fashion...and hair!!

The Serena Saga

So, there you have it! This weeks Sunday Social. Go to the site and check out what others have to say about blogging!!

Have a Happy and Joyous Sunday!!

Sunday Social

OFFICIAL BIRTHDAY COUNTDOWN!: 19 Days

It's that time again. Fall is upon us and there are so many things to look forward to this season. Let's talk about a few!

Sunday Social

1. What's your favorite fall activity?
When I was in NC, my family and I would always try to go to the State Fair. We like getting out to do things and we also like to get my nephew out and exposed to as many different events and activities as we can!!

2. Do you follow a football team? If so, which one and why?
Well! Each season I hope that UNC's football team is much better than they were last year and I'll tune in for the first couple of games, but they never are. I'll keep up with their wins and losses, but let's face it...UNC is definitely a basketball school!! And as far as the NFL goes, I keep up (per se) with the Steelers because that's my boyfriend's team ;-)

3. What is something fun about fall in your area?
I'm new to the area and open to any kind of activity or event. The Adams Morgan Day festival is actually today and it's in the heart of DC...but "it's week one; the first game (for the Steelers)" so football wins out over getting out of the house. Now you can see why I talked about football the way I did in this post!

4. What are your favorite fall staple outfits?
Scarves, scarves, and more scarves. I love the fall and winter because I get to break my scarves out. I love accent pieces and you can accentuate anything with a scarf!!

5. What things are you looking forward to most about this coming fall season?
FIRST of all, MY BIRTHDAY; which is September 27th!!! I don't know why I get so excited about my birthday but I do. There were certain things I thought I would accomplish at 25 and 26 that I still haven't and my birthday is kind of a reminder of that...and as the time continues to slip on by...I'm trying my best to ignore the obvious. So, I will thank the good Lord that I am here to see another year and pray that he hears my prayers so that those things will eventually come true! Secondly, I'm also excited about the move we have coming up...which will fall either before or shortly after my birthday. I'm excited about having my own space...maybe then, I won't feel like only a visitor here anymore. And number three, I'm looking forward to embracing the fall fashions in DC.

6. What is your favorite fall holiday? Tradition?
My favorite holiday would have to be Thanksgiving. I love food and Thanksgiving gives us an opportunity to get together with family over great food, to be thankful for the things this year has ushered in, and to just have a good time. Now that I'm not as close to my family physically, this will be a time of catching up. Having to coordinate travel time and time off work will be a new venture for me, so I'm praying in advance that things will work out!!

If you guys want to participate next week in the Sunday Social, here are the questions:

1. What is the name of your blog?
2. What do you love most about blogging?
3. Why did you start blogging?
4. What is something you'd want to tell someone just starting out in the blog world?
5. Biggest blogging learning experience you've had?
6. What are three blogs you love?

I'm looking forward to this set of questions so I wanted to remind myself by including them in this week's post!!

Happy Sunday to all!

Sunday Social

It's been so very long since I've done a Sunday Social, so I wanted to get back into the swing of things.

Sunday Social

This is one of my favorite hops because you get to see others answering the same questions you did and you'd be surprised at how similar we all are!

1. What do you miss most about being a kid?
I talked about this in one of my Liebster Award posts! Although, I discussed a few memorable things about my childhood there, there are so many things you don't realize you'll miss as an adult! When you look back at the things your parents always told you to enjoy because you would miss them later, it kind of makes you wish you had taken more enjoyment from some of those things.

2. Did you have a nickname growing up? What was it?
I did not...and I really wanted one!! I probably should have had one seeing as how my name is so difficult to pronounce!! There are a select few who call my MiMi, but that nickname never really stuck like it should have.

3. What was your favorite thing to do at recess?
I loved playing outside when I was younger. We did so many things like play basketball, play on the jungle gym, play tag, race each other, jump rope, flip, etc. etc. You name it, we did it...and we had fun doing it!!!

4. What did you want to be when you grew up?
I answered this question before too...see #6 here! I came to this conclusion when I was in the 4th or 5th grade. At my secondary elementary school (it only held grades 4 and 5) we were always doing neat little projects because the school was so small. I remember one time we all got to put our hand prints on the wall of the hallway! It was so neat to see your hand on the wall every time you walked by. But anyway, we had this big poster where we had to write our name and what we wanted to be...here is where I made my first decision about what I wanted to be when I grew up. If you read here (or one of the 4 other stories in that series), you can see that dream didn't stick! But, it doesn't hurt to have a dream!

5. Did you participate in any school activities?
I did several things in school. I talked about them here (#3) in the first Sunday Social I ever did!! How exciting, (and coincidental), right?! Go take a gander at that!

6. What is the funniest thing you did as a kid that your parents still remind you about?
I was just talking about this the other day. I grew up in the era of home movies. There is a video tape that my aunt has starring me (for about ten minutes). My family likes to bring this snippet up often, but thank goodness no one has pulled it out recently! This was during my tomboy days. I had hair standing all over my head and I was monopolizing the camera with talks of how well I was doing in school...being on the principal's list, making good grades, etc. I've seen it a few times and it's quite embarrassing, so it's good that this tape stays hidden. Matter of fact, I don't even think anybody has a VCR nowadays anyway!! LOL

So there you have it!! I somehow always find myself traveling down memory lane!!

Hope you enjoyed it.

Sunday Social

I haven't done a Sunday Social in a while.
I'm feeling it today, so I'm gonna jump in (with two hours left)!

Sunday Social

1. What is your shopping weakness?

Clothes. The bad thing about it is I try to be frugal so I can excuse shopping in excess...and I find some great pieces, with my frugal self. Now I'm at the point now where I'm ready to let go of my frugal-ness for the sake of good, quality clothing!

2. What is your food weakness?

I wouldn't really say I have a food weakness, but I do love me some french fries. I'm like Bubba (from Forrest Gump) with potatoes. I can eat them fried, hashed, scalloped, tatered, etc. etc...LOL. French fries are my favorite food and I can eat them at any time of the day.

3. What is your go to movie to watch when nothing is on?

Coming to America. There's just something about this movie that never gets old...and it always makes me laugh!

4. What is your go to breakfast food?

This has been a tough one for me lately. A year ago, this answer would have been easy...EGGS! I ran into some trouble with keeping eggs down so I've had an aversion to them ever since. I've been trying to find something to satisfy my need for food in the morning, to no avail, but I'm working my way back into eating eggs...slowly but surely.

5. Do you drink coffee? If so, how do you take it.

I'm not a regular coffee drinker. I've recently found a staple coffee at Starbucks that I love...White Chocolate Mocha Espresso!! When I get a cup of coffee that I have to fix myself...I use a whoooole lot of sugar, a good amount of cream (I prefer liquid. Powder is fine. Flavored powder is even better!), and of course non-decaf coffee. I drink coffee whenever it's around and/or I'm craving something sweet.

What are some of your answers to these questions?! I'm curious....

Sunday Social on Monday!!

It's Monday, but I'm doing my Sunday Social anyway!!

Sunday Social

Here we go!!

1. 5 songs you'll listen to for
the rest of your life:
Wowzers!! This is definitely a tough questions. These answers took me all week to think of!
1. Marvin's Room - Drake
2. In The Morning - J. Cole ft. Drake
3. My Boo - Ghost Town DJs (This song brings back so many memories. It came out when I was in the 5th grade. It was kinda like a girl anthem...and to this day, every time this song is heard/played it brings that feeling of nostalgia amongst everyone who was a part of that era.)
4. Swing My Way - K.P. & Envyi (for the same reasons as #3)
5. One In A Million - Aaliyah (She was one of my favorite R&B singers; I would have loved to have seen how she would have grown in this industry. If she wasn't around, some of the R&B artists that are doing so well now, would have a run for their money.)

2. 5 things on your bucket list:
1. Pay off all my debt, most importantly my student loans!
2. Extreme traveling (I want to go to the western part of the US - Las Vegas, Texas, & California are musts; I want to go to another country; I want to visit a tropical island; and I want to take a cruise. I really need to finish the process of getting my passport...and I need to use it!)
3. I want to learn how to ski and/or row some type of boat (kayak, rowboat, etc.)
I guess I need to think more about my bucket list because the next two aren't exactly bucket list items, but I figure why not...these are definitely two things I want to happen before I die, so here goes...LOL
4. Get married to a wonderful and loving man
5. Have wonderful and loving children

3. 5 celebs you'd love to hang out with for a day:
1. Beyonce (she's all over the place right now)
2. J. Cole (I feel a connection with him...see why here...We need to have a convo about the state of his album. I'm wondering where it is!)
3. Kerry Washington (let's face it, she's all over the place too)
Since I can't think of two more celebrities I would like to follow. I will think of two of my favorite characters from shows I enjoy watching.
4. Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale from The Walking Dead. I have enjoyed watching his character grow...and although I was upset with him when he left the group to be with his brother, I think he's realizing some things about his brother - I haven't seen yesterday's episode yet, so I don't say too much just yet)
5. Guillermo Diaz (Huck from Scandal. He's my absolute favorite character on the show. There's something about extreme loyalty that wins me over. He is a very good friend to those he befriends and he definitely gets the job done.)

4. 5 things you always carry in your purse:
(I'm not going to name the obvious things such as wallet, cell phone, iPad mini, sentimental pictures, etc.. Some things are a given!)
1. Backup chapstick
2. Notebook (pens & pencils)
3. Fingernail clippers
4. Lotion/hand sanitizer/cocoa butter
5. Umbrella

5. 5 books on your reading list:
1. The Bible
Let's face it. I don't really have a reading list. My schedule is super full. I barely have time in my days to do the things I NEED to do, let alone want to do. I'm currently reading the Bible all the way through. I'm also reading Joyce Meyer's devotional, Promises for Your Everyday Life. I'm interchangeably reading these because of the crunch of time, so trying to squeeze a book in there for leisure...nah. However, the last book I read was To Heaven and Back by Mary C. Neal. My coworker suggested this book. It was an easy read and very, very good. I recommend this book.

6. Share the last 5 pictures on your phone:

Sunday Social

It's Sunday Social y'all!!

Sunday Social

Here we go!!

1. What was your biggest middle school fashion mistake?
Middle school fashion? I can barely remember what I wore yesterday, let alone thinking about what I wore all the way back in middle school. Thank goodness for pictures, right?! Because of the pictures, I vaguely remember wearing way too big jeans and way too big shirts. I remember a lot of plaid shirts. And, I also remember wanting these platform Reeboks sooooo bad. I begged my mom to get me those for the longest time and when I finally got them, I don't think I wore them but a hand full of times...lol. Kids!

2. Who were your best friends in high school? Pics?
I had a number of friends throughout middle school and high school. But the ladies who have been with me since middle school are my three best friends to this day: Dorothy (affectionately known as Dottie...my longest friendship - since 5th grade), Nicole, & Tia (list in alphabetical order...lol)! We all bonded through band. Me, Nicole, and Dottie played the flute; Tia played the clarinet. We've all come such a long way and I am extremely proud of each of these ladies!!

I guess we thought we were Charlie's Angels...lol! :-)

3. What was a typical weekend like for you in high school?
Well, I haven't changed too much from high school to now. I was a homebody then and I'm still a homebody now. I don't know if this is by choice or if it's by circumstance...LOL. If I could have it my way, I'd be much more outgoing than I am, but I digress. Typically, especially in the fall, my weekends would be full of marching band activities (hear more from me about band here). We traveled almost every weekend for band competitions. The band was really good and at our largest during my first two years. The last two years things were changing. The atmosphere was changing with each new class that entered high school...and it was downhill from there! LOL.

4. Did you have any boyfriends?
Tell us about that.
I did. They weren't anything extraordinary, just your typical high school relationships. Not really too much to tell there.

5. Did you have any secret codes with your friends?
Spill your secrets!
I'm trying to think back to high school and the things my friends and I did and said. I'm sure we had our little inside jokes and sayings, but I'm drawing a blank!

6. If you could relive one day/moment/experience from middle school or high school, what would it be?
There are three moments I would relive (I know it just says one, but I have to make up for questions 4 and 5)! First: The summer before my senior year, my friend and I were able to go to this program called Project Uplift at UNC. While there we just so happened to meet two young men, from the next city over from our hometown, who were attending the program as well. We all hit it off and ended up spending some time together once we all got back home, but it was high school! We hung out a few times and lost touch. By some bizarre twist of fate, years and years later (after high school, college, and grad school!), I ran into the guy I liked the most out of the two. Fast forward to today, me and my CB are doing well! I would relive those moments because who would have known that those moments would be so special for my future! :-)

Secondly: I would relive getting my acceptance letter from the greatest school in the nation! That's right, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Once I read that letter I felt as if I had the whole world ahead of me. I would go off to UNC, become a pharmacist, and stack money!! LOL. Needless to say, things definitely did not happen like that, but I would relieve that moment because it was the beginning of a new chapter for me.

Thirdly: I would relieve graduation day! Just as the acceptance letter was the beginning of a new chapter, graduation was the kick start. It made me realize that things were about to get real. I was going to be on my own. I was going to leave home and never come back!! (That was my slogan in high school...my mom brings that up from time to time...we get a kick out of it now) I would relive this moment, but I would want to change it a bit. I wish I could have gone into college like a blank slate, instead of going in thinking I knew everything. I wish I didn't know what I thought I wanted to major in and I definitely wish I wouldn't have taken both Calculus and Chemistry during my first semester there...big mistake!! LOL. But, I learned a lot of lessons from my college experience. I pass these lessons on to every young person I know entering college (at least the ones who'll listen...lol).

What are your answers to these questions?? I'd love to hear!

Sunday Social

I'm starting to learn that I love Blog Hops!! It's a great way to have exciting content AND link up with other bloggers!!

Sunday Social

Sunday Social is in it's 36th week! But, here's my first one!

1. What was your first car?

I'm reluctant to say this, but I still have my first car. It's a silver 2001 Nissan Altima. I first got my car the summer before my Sophomore year in college. I bought it myself and I've kept up it up myself! It hasn't given me any major problems (knock on wood!) so I still have it. I would LOVE to have another car, but I want to always keep this one. It's super reliable. This picture to the right was taken in May 2006. It's the earliest picture I could find with Tima (my car)! She was 2 years old!! :-)

2. Who was your favorite childhood teacher?

I Googled & found
this picture! HEY
MRS. HAZELGROVE!!
There are many teachers who stick out in my mind! If I had to pick an absolute favorite, it would have to be my 5th grade teacher Mrs. Hazelgrove! Her daughter and I were in the same class, so I continued to see her well after the 5th grade. She's kept up with me and I still see her from time to time when I go home. She's always so warm and welcoming. I enjoyed her class so much and she was and still is one sweet lady!!

3. Were you involved in any sports/extracurricular activities?

I played recreational softball from the 4th to 7th/8th grade. I played 1 year for middle school (can't remember the grade). I wanted to quit when I played for the school because the coach was mean & it was different from recreational ball. My moma wouldn't let me quit!! LOL
In high school, I was in the marching band all 4 years. I played the piccolo the first 2 years & the mellophone (marching french horn) the last 2 years. I loved the marching band. It was a lot of hard work, but we definitely made it fun. We got to travel all over NC & once a year we took a big Spring Trip out of state. Our 1st spring trip was to Virginia Beach, VA, which is right up the street. We all were upset when we found out we were only going VA our first year. The year prior they went to Canada for Pete's sake!! Other years we went to St. Louis, Maryland, and Disney World! After it was all said and done, I think we had to most fun in VA! LOL

I was also in the Jabberwock my Junior year and the Cotillion my Senior year. These are pageants that "introduce young ladies into society". The Jabberwock was a pageant given by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Cotillion was given by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.! I had the most fun in the Cotillion. There were activities we participated in throughout the school year that bettered us and young women and compared to the Jabberwock the Cotillion was a huge production. I've since joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and have had the honor of being on the other side of the pageants. That's just as much fun, if not more. Don't get me wrong, it's a lot of work but I understand how much of an impact the Cotillion can have on young ladies. I've definitely enjoyed being a part of the sorority and the pageants. I received scholarship money from both pageants but the Cotillion also gave gifts; most that could be used for college.

4. What was your favorite birthday party?
I definitely do not remember the age (I know it was under 10), but I had a birthday party at the skating rink. My friends and family members were there. It was so much fun. This is when I discovered I don't like being the center of attention. I remember my best gift being a Polly Pocket! LOL

5. Who was your teen celebrity crush?

I hate to admit this but Lil' Wayne was my crush! LOL. I had a huge poster of him on my closet door. My friends picked on me for loving him as much as I did. Looking at what he's turned into, I would go back and pick on me for loving him that much too!

6. What show/movie did your parents not allow you to watch?
This may sound bad, but we could watch whatever we wanted to. We were kids, so it's not like we were trying to watch anything bad. Normal things my peers say they weren't allowed to watch were shows like Beavis and Butthead, Ren and Stimpy, Music Videos (BET & MTV), etc. etc. I could watch it all. I think we all turned out about the same. For instance, my CB wasn't allowed to watch music videos but we both enjoy the same type of music now. The only difference is he doesn't remember videos like Kriss Kross's Jump!

There's such a nostalgic feeling you get when you hear or see something from your childhood. Having not seen some of these things, you miss out on a relatable moment with others who have. I think it was a good thing to not have those type of boundaries. I think it helps me understand boundaries even more.
That's just my opinion though!

I'm looking forward to next week's Sunday Social!!

Join us!! It's fun!
