What Is The Green Smoothie Cleanse?

...And Why I'm Doing it!

The 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse!
I had never heard of this until a couple of weeks ago. A few of my coworkers and I talk health and fitness quite often. We share things we're doing and keep each other motivated to stay fit. All of us are trying to lose some type of weight at the moment, so my coworker suggested we give this cleanse a try.

What is the green smoothie cleanse? 

So, What Is The Green Smoothie Cleanse?

Quoting the book:
The Green Smoothie Cleanse is a ten-day detox/cleanse made up of green leafy veggies, fruit, and water. ... You can expect to lose some weight, increase your energy levels, reduce your cravings, clear your mind, and improve your digestion and overall health. It is an experience that will change your life if you stick with it!
When my coworker brought it up and talked about some of the benefits, it was hard to say no. Who doesn't want those things?! The cleanse works by clearing your body of toxins. Getting rid of toxins helps the body focus on burning calories rather than having to work so hard on those toxins.

What do you have to do? Here's the quick and dirty about the 10-day Green Smoothie Cleanse:
 ~ You drink three smoothies a day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner
 ~ You drink a detox tea in the morning to help with detoxing the organs
 ~ You snack on fruits, vegetables, eggs, and nuts to help with hunger pangs.
 ~ The book provides you with the recipes you'll need for each day
 ~ ...and, if smoothies are your thing, you get 100 additional recipes just for kicks
Seems easy enough, right?! The only work you have to do is the grocery shopping and blending the ingredients! So, why did I decide to do this cleanse?

Why Do the Green Smoothie Cleanse?

I spoke about my fitness goal at the beginning of the year. This cleanse is right in line with that goal. What it comes down to is trying to lose my pokey stomach. I don't want to lose the muscle I've worked so hard to get, nor am I necessarily trying to lose significant weight. This cleanse helps you lose weight and inches, but most importantly it prepares your body to be in tip-top shape for the future by detoxing the organs.

One goal of the Green Smoothie Cleanse is to lose inchesI know how important diet is when you're trying to make body changes. You have to consider what and how much you're eating. Since I've already changed my diet to help me reach my goal, I'm more interested in seeing these inches go! Every body is different and exposed to different things on a daily basis. It's because of this that varying results are achieved but, on average, the projected amount of weight loss is between 10-15 pounds. 

The Green Smoothie Cleanse is more like a setup. It sets your body up for a win. It clears your body of toxins so it's able to sufficiently do it's job. Once you finish the cleanse, your organs will be ready to process your (already or newly) healthy diet! You don't want to go back to eating a bunch of junk because this will do nothing but pollute the organs again!

The Modified Cleanse

I picked the modified cleanse, because the purpose of this version of the cleanse is exactly what I'm looking to do.
Weight loss may not be as dramatic, but you can expect to still lose between five and ten pounds in the ten days. The modified cleanse was designed for those unwilling or unable to stick with the full cleanse for ten days. It is also great for those who are not looking to lose a lot of weight but simply detox
Day 1 Smoothie Ingredients

With this version, you only drink two shakes and have one healthy meal. I'm choosing to drink the shakes for breakfast and lunch and eat a healthy dinner. This is essentially what I do now. I eat a light breakfast and lunch and a healthy dinner. Why shock my body by taking away dinner?!

The amount of weight loss projected with this version is between 5-10 pounds. Losing at least five pounds will make me reach my goal weight loss for the year (10 pounds). So once I finish the detox, I'll only need to workout to maintain my body weight, as opposed to working out to hit a mark. Doing the modified version will keep me on track. My organs will be detoxed and better able to process my already healthy diet!


Preparation

Groceries for the first 5 days of the Green Smoothie CleanseI bought my plant based protein and ground flax seeds from Yes! Organic Market. Although it's recommended that you buy the rest of the ingredients from an organic market as well, I just went to grocery store. (Organic fruits and vegetables are a bit on the pricey side!) It recommends shopping for five days at a time. We all know fruits and vegetables have short shelf lives.

I'm motivated to get through this cleanse. I've mentally prepared and I'm certain I'll be able to complete this challenge with no problem! After all, it's only 10 days! I'll check in halfway through my journey, so stay tuned. I anxious to see the end product!
