A Book Club

Assata: An Autobiography

My friends and I have decided to start a book club. As adults, we've found that we don't read as much as we used to when we were younger. This could be because we're not forced to since our reading isn't associated with a grade that could keep us from passing a class...or because we're all busy adults and reading isn't at the top of some of our things-to-do list but nonetheless here we are!

Our goal is read books that will feed our minds useful information. We picked Assata: An Autobiography as our first read because we were having group conversations around the number of social injustices that have been happening. We wanted to follow some of that conversation up with a book that would shed some historical light on injustices of the past. There were many books brought to the table, but Assata got the most votes!

Assata is the first book being read in our book club

I'm excited about our book club. This gives me some accountability with my reading. Within the past year, I've only read two books. This is great but it could be better!

Now, don't get me wrong! Our book club is not limited to only reading books like Assata. I think it's important for Black Americans to fill in the holes of our history with more accurate tellings of the story but that's a story for another time. We will cover a range of subjects such as entrepreneurship, self improvement, and important non-fiction topics of that nature. There's absolutely nothing wrong with fiction, but that's not the goal of the book club!

So, stay tuned for my review of this book and our book club. If you're interested in reading along, check it out here and join us!!

Have you ever read Assata? What are your thoughts??
