May curlBOX & Product Review

Creme of Nature Product Review w/ Nov 2015 Update

I know it's June and my next curlBOX is probably halfway to me by now but May was a busy month for me. There was my vacation, then family reunion, then playing catching up...I was exhausted! I still managed try the curlBOX out, so let me share my views on the products. In this month's box were:

 photo MayCurlbox_zps0d2a8fd1.jpg
May curlBOX
  • Crème of Nature Strength & Shine Leave-In Conditioner
  • Crème of Nature Pudding Perfection Curl Enhancing Cream
  • Ojon rareBlend Moisture-Rich Cleansing Conditioner
  • U R Curly Soya Shampoo
  • Grandma's Pure and Natural Lye Soap
  • Earth's Nectar Coconut Curls Conditioning Detangler
  • and a curlBOX Postcard
I tried two products out of this box. The first product I tried was the Crème of Nature leave-in. I couldn't tell a difference between using this leave-in versus using other leave-ins, therefore I can't really give an extensive product review about this product. I know, I know...boo to me. But if it helps, I've used it about two or three times, and nothing negative has come from it!

photo CremeofNature_zpsbf4b6631.jpg This product review is mainly for the Crème of Nature Pudding Perfection Curl Enhancing Cream. I'm going to preface this by saying I didn't want to use it because I love my Pantene custard so much, especially for twist outs; but what else is the curlBOX for other than to try new things?!

The product was very light and didn't have a hard hold, so when I untwisted my hair it absorbed so much moisture from the air. The product has a decent smell so that wasn't an issue. As a matter of fact, most of the products I'm exposed to these days has a decent smell, so I think brands are being more cognizant of that. If I had to use this product again, I would use it as a moisturizer for a wash and go, rather than use it as a holding agent for my twist outs, because it didn't work at all!!!

Of course I didn't take good pictures of the final result. I didn't really like how it turned out, so I wasn't in the photo snapping mood. I kept meaning to get at least one good picture for the blog, but I'm still in off-the-grid mode so my phone (and other devices) stay out of my hands more than they stay in my hands. From the outside looking in, most people would say it looks fine...and it does, I just prefer the more defined look Pantene gives me. This look was too puffy and shrunken for me. The humidity played a big role in this look (and I have to remember that for future styles), but I only kept this look for about a week before throwing some Pantene on it!

NOVEMBER 2015 UPDATE

The only products I've used out of this box, still, are the two mentioned in this post. This was the first time my hair was exposed to the brand, so I'm thankful to curlBOX for the exposure. Back then, I had no goals for my hair so I didn't know any better. I was trying products just to try them. Now with my goal of having healthy hair, I'm more cognizant of what I'm putting in my hair.

I don't use the Pantene custard anymore. My NC cosmetologist told me that product wasn't good for my hair because the pH was way to high. Since then, it's been on my to-do list to start testing the products I use for pH.

I have used the Creme of Nature leave-in a lot since this post. It's one of my favorite spray leave-in conditioners. It's a great moisturizer and very light, so it doesn't weigh my hair down. That's also what I love about the Pudding Perfection Curl Enhancing Cream.

When I tried this product the first time, I was more interested in getting length out of my twist-outs. Now, I don't stretch my twist-outs, I wear my twist outs as pictured here. Also, my wash day technique has changed. Perfecting my technique has a lot to do with how my hairstyles turn out. So, while the products I use play a large part of that, the technique is key.

Creme of Nature is one of my go to brands now, I use many of their products and would highly recommend them to anyone. I guess the next thing I should do is test these products for pH!

What's your favorite hair product??

Trying Again

My Third Wash and Go

My natural hair before my wash and go trial.I tried this wash and go style for the third time in my natural life. I'm not a fan of SHRINKAGE!! Summer's coming and I know I'll have to battle very hot weather and humidity. I wanted to jump out in front of the ball by figuring out some styles now that I can wear to combat with the elements!

Since this is a wash and go there aren't too many products or steps to achieving this style, but I'll reveal what I did to get the look along with how I preserved the look overnight.

100 Happy Days

As I was surfing the net this past weekend, I saw that one of my #BLMGirls was calling upon our group to join the 100 Days of Happy Challenge. I hadn't heard anything about it, but many of the ladies who commented had. I was curious so I checked it out.

This challenge is daring people to be happy for 100 days straight and acknowledging it. It's not about proving to others how happy you are and if that's your goal, you fail already! If you read this post then you know how I've been feeling since vacation. Although I said I liked being off the grid and enjoyed living in the moment rather than getting caught up in trying to capture the moment, I thought this challenge was the perfect way to keep a good thing going!

I saw this and got a little nervous. I've tried to do challenges before and have failed miserably. Most of those challenges were 30 day challenges, so I was nervous about falling into this 71%!! I have a hard time sticking with routines, especially routines like these. I mean really, who has the time to post something every single day?! You fail already by not trying at all, so I figured 'what the heck?!' and signed up!

I started Monday, June 2. My 100th day will be Wednesday, September 10th. That's a very long time and I'm sure I'll have trouble remembering to post something every single day. I'll try not beat myself up if I forget a day or two but I'll try my hardest not to. I'm very happy so I shouldn't have any problems finding 100 things!! I guess we'll see...won't we??

I'm encouraging everyone I can to be a part of this challenge. You don't have to register to participate, but its' good for accountability purposes ;-)

Days 1-4

Want to see what my pics are about? Join me!!
If you join or already a part of this, let me know so I can keep up with your 100 Days of Happy!!

Memorial Day Weekend

Directly after my summer vacation my family came up to visit for Memorial Day weekend! We had to jam pack so many things into one weekend but it was worth it!

Me and Chris were the event planners. Friday we took my mom, sister, and nephew to our favorite restaurant: Matchbox! We take all our first time DC guests there!!

Saturday we met up with some more of my out of town family to do some see what kind of shopping the DC area had to offer. My plan was to make it to The Capital Wheel at National Harbor (for the kids) but Memorial Day weekend was the opening weekend!! Traffic was backed all the way up the off ramp to the highway, so we nixed that and hit up Tanger Outlets. This outlet mall is fairly new to the area and I've been meaning to visit. This was the perfect opportunity.

Sunday was the day I looked forward to because this was going to be everyone's first opportunity to see the monuments. My sister came back in October and we tried to visit the monuments then but it was rainy & cold! Since it was Memorial Day, we knew it would be too hectic to drive. We thought it would be a good experience and a little fun for everyone to ride the Metro instead! What a success! My family got a taste of the subway life and we didn't have to worry about driving or parking! If you read this post, you already know how I feel about this subject!

The initial plan was the definitely see the White House and the Lincoln Memorial because my nephew talked everybody's head off about these two monuments up to this point! There would have been trouble to pay if we didn't make the magic happen. We also had to see the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial because my sister wanted to see this one! My moma wanted to see it all!

The weather was beautiful, but it was a little on the warm side! My sister is 5 months pregnant and if you know anything about the monuments, you know they're not a hop, skip, or jump away from each other!! Walking around all the monuments would easily take a whole day! With this in mind, we planned to see as many as she could tolerate. The sun was wearing us thin HOWEVER we all got a second wind after the temperature cooled down and we grabbed a light snack. My mom wanted to see them all. I've been up here for almost a year and she's just now coming to visit. Who know when she'll make her way back! So, she wanted to take full advantage of her vacation and finish seeing as many as we could!

Overall we had a great time! I miss my family dearly and I wish home was a little closer but the visits are fun and I hope they become more frequent in the future (meaning more trips for them up here!) :-)

Vacation OOTD

Florida in the Summer

Yes! As you can see I'm still reliving my vacation! Of course I went shopping for the vacation and I happened to find most of this look at Forever 21, so shouts out to them! This is already one of my favorite looks from my summer wardrobe. I've been working hard to get rid of my kangaroo pooch/pudgy stomach and it's been paying off. I finally mustered up enough courage to try this crop top look and I think it was a success! After all, what else is vacation for if not to show off your vacation body?!

Sunglasses: Francesca's
Owl Earrings: Forever 21
Necklace: Forever 21
MTV Crop Top: Forever 21
Leggings: Forever 21
Sandals: Rainbow
Bracelet: Forever 21
MK Watch

I wanted to highlight these earrings because they showcase two things. Owls (which are kind of my thing) and pearls (skee-wee :-)! I've loved owls since college. I found a beautiful owl ring in some random store near campus that sparked my interest in owls forever. I ended up losing that ring, but I've collected many owl accessories over the years. I'm very particular about my owl jewelry, and I don't usually wear studs, but something about these guys caught my eye!

I love looks that are stylish and kind to my wallet at the same time! I plan to incorporate more of the crop top look into my summer wardrobe so I have to make sure I stay on top of my diet and working out so that more of my abs will show as opposed to just stomach, catch my drift?!

What do yo think of the crop top craze this year and are you participating?
